Melissa Kellett

Originally from Hawkes Bay, Mel moved to the Bay of Plenty in 2005 to begin her studies in Marine Sciences at the Bay of Plenty Polytechnic.  Mel is now completing her MSc, studying the habitat use and seasonal movements of Bronze Whaler sharks in Tauranga’s coastal waters.

Mel has had a love for the ocean and its megafauna from a young age, with a particular fascination for sharks which she describes as ‘masters of evolution’, so it was only a matter of time before she began researching them.

Mel is also interested in Marine Protected Areas and enjoys educating children about how special the marine environment is.
